The Anchor

The storm, like a runaway freight train, came in at a relentless speed. The crippling force of the impact was truly devastating; leaving a vast debris of scattered and broken pieces to wade through.
In an instant, memories of a beautiful afternoon cruise cut short by a late night system that nobody saw coming; a violent and brutal storm that would change our lives forever.
One of our own tragically thrown overboard, lost in the depths. Another slowly pulled through the raging waters to safety; physically recovered perhaps, but emotionally at sea for some time to come. Many others sickened and disoriented by the overpowering waves which surged and tossed us back and forth with little control or choice in the matter.
We cursed with raised fists into the dark sky as our small slice of heaven seemingly consumed by a ravenous hell… Why us? Haunted by many decision points that brought us right here, right now. Regret, remorse and rage… rightfully so.
Tears like rain, they fell; overflowing many buckets that were placed to catch leaks from the fresh, raw cracks.
Frantically, we patched holes and tossed needless junk over the edge to stay afloat; yet, nothing we could ever do ourselves would be quite enough.
Our ship, our lives, and our hope… were sinking
Where do we turn when our lives are turned upside down?
The burdens and sorrows, like sea billows roll; so heavy they will bring us to the brink of collapse. Powerful tides pulling us out into unknown waters; fully aware that when this happens there is a great probability of our lives becoming submerged and shipwrecked.
Have we considered what, or who keeps us secure? We would be wise to identify this now before finding
ourselves assaulted by the elements in our darkest hour.
There is an Anchor
Plunging deep into the most treacherous of waters, it drops with great intention; cutting through the largest of swells… unwavering. Once in place, the waves may crash and the winds they blow, but our ship will remain steadfast.
This Anchor as Hebrews 6:19 tells us, He will give hope and strength to our weary souls

Strong and trustworthy through all of life’s storms

We can sink our heavy burdens, nailing them secure; Counting on Him alone to hold, even when we feel like letting go.

Our ship then, though frayed and worn, will remain afloat with this lifeline secured in deeper waters below; the depths of which we could never reach on our own.
Painful scars acting as a reminder of the One who held us secure during our most wretched night, and keeps us close until dawn.
In time, this storm will pass and we will sail again; at peace in calmer seas
Knowing with full confidence that no matter what lies ahead…
Our Anchor, He Holds

Ben, thank you so much! We know about the tragedy that has devastated your family. Of course, we can’t know it the way you do. But your words bring us closer in and we sense some of your reality.

Your writing is incredible, the imagery is penetrating and powerful. It tells your story so well.

Thank you for bringing us back to “The Anchor.” In our different and menacing storms, we must, and we do, have Jesus. The Anchor.

      1. May we all hold strong with Him holding us secure!

  2. Hello Ben ,

What an incredible writing !!!! Reading that with the knowledge of your families story and the journey of recovery is so so powerful. May the Lord use you and this writing from your heart to bring hope to many. We never know someone else’s story or rather their reality unless they are willing to share it with others and that the others are open and willing to listen.

You have a gift in writing my friend, appreciate you sharing your heart.

    1. Thank you Ron for weathering the storm by my side
