Eventually, the novelty of our independence runs dry and we will become fatigued by a growing emptiness deep within; a void that is impossible to reach no matter what we do. We have all experienced this reality, working toward that sole answer to all of our problems, only to realize it just created more questions.
For some, you left home years ago in search of all you thought would fulfill you but came up empty time and time again; because while we can fill our hearts with a lot of things, they will simply never meet the basic need for belonging. We come to realize the identity we were seeking all this time out there in the real world, was actually right back where we started… at home.
For others perhaps you have remained close to home. Lacking the confidence to venture out too far, yet ashamed to enter back in; believing you are a disappointment. And so you hide… listening and watching from a distance like an outsider; maybe even putting on a disguise in the off chance you are spotted in the neighbourhood.
And then there are those who grew up down the street and never quite knew what this home offered. Replaying the scenes from your upbringing, you rightfully wrestle with the idea of anything different. And yet, the warm glow from within this home draws you in from the cold, dark street.
Regardless of where we find ourselves today, the porch light has been left on for those who seek the life-giving comfort this house promises. Our Father sits with open arms longing for us to come inside and receive all He has to give us; all we could ever need or want as a man. James 1:17 and Luke 12:32 tells us ‘Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from our Father…’ as it gives Him ‘…Great happiness to give us His Kingdom’
Picture it like a homecoming where the banner is raised high and there is great celebration upon our arrival; no matter where we have been or how long we have been there. There will be immense relief on this day; letting go of the ‘tough guy’ facade and embracing the innocence and frailty of a boy who is simply hand in hand with his Dad.
This is our Reunion; a joining back together of that which was never meant to be apart; a return to our true roots.
For far too long we have believed that independence, or walking alone with little need for help, equates to strength. However, the reality is we must concede and allow for the dependance of a son who is lifted high and carried by His Father; ‘Giving all our worries and cares to Him, for He cares for us’ as 1 Peter 5:7 urges.
To have reunion with Him who gave us life is what our hearts long for; nothing else will ever come close to filling the void we all hold, and nothing else could better help us understand who we are.
Only through this intimate presence, relief and reassurance of our Father, will we ever experience true… Core Kinship
