Cost of Living

What in our lives doesn’t come at a cost?

From the shirt on our back to the roof over our head, everything carries a price tag.

We work ourselves ragged to keep up with the rising cost of living, yet it never seems to be enough.

Sure, we may have the best of intentions to save for a rainy day, but when was the last time we even made a deposit?

More than likely, we are going into overdraft; recklessly spending what we don’t have, racking up debt in an effort to feel fulfilled. But instead, finding ourselves empty of pocket and captive to the almighty dollar.

Proverbs 22:7 reminds us that ‘the borrower is slave to the lender’; a tormenting master many have served far too long.

This master of misery preys on our impulsive behaviours. Like blood in shark infested waters, our lack of intention and control exposes us to complacency; the killer of any and all urgency.

While we try to keep our head above water, beneath the surface, we are wading in a foreign currency that is far more valuable then the paper lining our wallets.

It is the lifelong pursuit for Legacy; an eternal ‘wealthspring’ of inheritance and inspiration that has the power to span generations.

But along with this pursuit, also comes a rising cost that bids for our souls and demands our all.

Like our bank account, we each hold a statement within; the income and outcome of our choices each day.

How we spend our time and energy determines our account balance and net worth

How many of us are living in the moment, spending our reserves on worldly assets that will soon rust away; while that which lasts forever quickly drifts out of reach.

It is a matter of sacrifice

Earthly fortunes can equal Spiritual bankruptcy if we don’t monitor our spending and get our books in order.

More then a financial planner, we need a forever provider, who places higher value on eternal equity then earthly earning.

One who sees the bigger picture and provides a path toward long term growth; trading the little we have for the plenty in need.

We are talking about a Trust, not in ourselves, that delivers Riches, not of this world.

We must be diligent; setting a budget and preparing our hearts for the investment opportunities that will be placed in front of us.

For the value of dividends shared with many long after we move on will be decided by the seemingly insignificant choices we face today.

And YES, it must start today… because time is guaranteed to no man.

Don’t be like the fool in Proverbs 21:20 who ‘spends whatever he gets

Instead be wise and invest what you have into that which lasts

The approach in and of itself is simple – Saving spiritually requires sacrificing selflessly.

Ask yourself…

Am I taking more then I give?

Am I losing more then I gain?

Am I intentionally writing a story for the ages; or aimlessly getting lost in the pages?

The answers to these questions, do truly matter

God give me Wisdom in the here and now, so I may have Wealth in the here and after.
